As a General Education teacher who co-teaches with our Special Education teacher, I have a number of Special Education students in my classroom every year. With the variety of disabilities now covered under Special Education resources (through IEP or 504s) I felt it would be a good idea to widen my scope of knowledge in this area while studying for my Master’s degree. The artifacts in this showcase demonstrate my passion and ability to use Technology and differentiate instruction in the field of Special Education.
Digital Book for Students with Mild Disabilities - This is an example of how teachers can make digital books to help support students with Mild Disabilities. This is a book one of my fifth grade students was trying to read and struggling with due to his lack of expanded vocabulary and prior knowledge of Abraham Lincoln. Due to this difficulty, I made a digital book to help support his reading.
Resource Website for Students with Literacy Difficulties-This website was published for teachers and Elementary staff to use to find resources to support students with different disabilities and difficulties in Literacy.
Parent Point of View - As a teacher it is important to sometimes put yourselves in the shoes of a parent when trying to learn how to support them. Below is a document that is an example of an essay I wrote in a debate where I portrayed a parent of an ADHD student.
Literacy Observation Project - This is an example of my support project to a student who was both gifted and talented in math but also had a speech disability that was effecting his reading. Below are links to my observations and my individualized lesson plans for this student.
Struggling Student Evaluation - As a teacher, I was asked to observe a student who was struggling in all core academic areas and make an educated evaluation of that student. Below is a link to the final evaluation of this student using the PAR method.
